Nursing errors may lead to homicide charges in Ohio case

Many Ohio residents have been watching the news concerning nursing errors that led to the death of young girl. Ohio police state, "one or more individuals were involved". The statement comes from the Dayton police homicide unit. The homicide sergeant went on to say that the police were working with prosecutors on appropriate criminal charges. The nursing errors that led to the girl's death have shocked many Ohioans.

The wrongful death at issue here took place on March 1 of this year. A 14-year-old girl, who suffered from cerebral palsy, died of nutritional and medical neglect. Both of which, according to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office, were complicated by the girl's chronic illness. As mentioned above, her death is being investigated as a homicide. The coroner's office reported that the girl only weighed 28 pounds on the date of her death.

According to the Ohio Board of Nursing, the nurse who had treating the girl has since voluntarily surrendered her license. Nursing board records indicate the woman had been a licensed nurse since July 1994. As part of the surrender document is a clause that prevents her from ever getting her license reinstated.

The facts of this case are still being unraveled by the authorities, but one fact is known. A young child died because of nursing errors that should never have happened. It was only after autopsy and lab tests that police were able to focus their investigation as a possible homicide.

When patients suffer or die due to incompetent doctors or nurses, families of the injured are entitled to answers. In Ohio, as elsewhere, families may be entitled to various types of damages including compensation. Consulting with an experienced personal injury attorney may be the best way to discover what options are available to family members.
