Teen finds interesting way to raise awareness for cerebral palsy

When a baby is born with a birth injury, the entire family, including older siblings, can be affected by the diagnosis. For some families, the effects of the birth injuries aren't really anything more than a challenge to overcome. For one family, a diagnosis of periventricular leukomalacia has brought the family together. Kentucky residents might like to read about how a devastating diagnosis turned into a heartwarming story.

A teenager has recently announced that he will carry his little brother on his shoulders for 40 miles over the course of two days. The teen's little brother was born with a brain injury, periventricular leukomalacia, which can lead to cerebral palsy. The purpose of the walk is to get the attention of people who can make a difference in the world of cerebral palsy.

The younger brother walks with the help of a special walker, but during the 40-mile trek, his support will be his older brother's shoulders. His older brother knows the challenge of the special walk, but he says he knows the value of hard work. He says that his hard work is nothing compared to what his little brother does on a daily basis.

While this story is at a high point now, that isn't always the case for children with cerebral palsy and their family members. Medical care and the equipment necessary for a person with cerebral palsy can get expensive. Seeking compensation to offset the cost of these items, as well as other expenses related to the condition, might be possible if the cerebral palsy was caused by medical malpractice or medical negligence. Understanding how the law applies to your situation might help you decide how to proceed.
